The track will be lined with 65-pound, water-filled barriers, allowing quick emergency access, according to the presentation. The barriers are built to withstand speeds of up to 65 mph, and the track would limit speeds to 57 mph.

A 65-pound barrier can deflect that kind of force? I suppose that must mean it’s anchored, but wouldn’t that render the barrier’s weight irrelevant?

65 pounds of water is less than 8 gallons I’m guessing that’s the dry weight of the barriers.

That would be a strange detail to have in the article. Who cares about the dry weight if they’re going to be filled with water? The only thing that I can think of would be that “quick emergency access” is perhaps provided by a big drain on the bottom.

It seems like a common way of describing them.

I can’t seem to find a 65-pound version, but those links are showing more than 200 lbs per foot when filled. That pretty impressive, but I wonder how long it takes to drain them in the event of an actual emergency.
